In a time when dystopian, end-of-the-world story lines are so popular, this title fits well into the fold. It follows the story of 10-year-old girl, Lisa, and her 7-year-old brother. A deadly virus has killed off anyone over the age of 12 so only children remain to fend for themselves. Lisa’s good survival skills are noticed and become sought after by their sometimes-friendly neighbors as well as the definitely-not-friendly neighborhood gang. Throughout the story, Lisa struggles not only with survival, but also with the leadership role she has taken on helping others, while also protecting herself and everything she has worked hard to build.
As a graphic novel, it’s a quick read, and a compelling story that will appeal to the Hunger Games crowd.
