Before I Die

What happens when you write the following sentence on a public wall, “Before I die I want to ____________”? You receive enough passionate, heartbreaking, funny, and honest responses to fill a book, presenting a poignant picture of humanity. Author Candy Chang worked with community organizations all over the world to create these walls on construction sites, plazas, campus, and houses.

People from New Zealand, Chicago, San Francisco, Canada, South Africa, India, Australia, Rome, Crete, Nebraska, and 22 other countries picked up a piece of chalk to respond. Answers such as “I want to understand women, be someone’s favorite, swim in a pool of golden retriever puppies, feel comfortable in my skin, own a small pig, canoe the Mississippi, learn to weave silk in rural Japan” demonstrate that no matter where we live, we all share the same desire to enjoy life. This perusable coffee table book is a quick, inspiring read and even includes instructions to create such a wall in your community.
