Libba Bray’s The Diviners is the first in a series that follows 17-year old Evie O’Neill. It’s the 1920s and after getting into some trouble at home in Ohio, Evie has just been sent to Manhattan to live with her uncle Will, the curator of The Museum of American Folklore, Superstition and the Occult – or as its commonly called among New Yorkers – the Museum of Creepy Crawlies.

Wonder Show

Portia’s mother left her when she was very young. Her father left her at age 9 in care of her aunt and now, her aunt is dropping her off at the McGreavey Home for Wayward Girls under the direction of a man mostly referred to as “Mister.” It’s a bleak place; the girls are forced to work for the creepy Mister in either the orchards or sewing mail-order uniforms.
